BTMES Students Participate in Hour of Code

On Monday, December 10th, our 6th graders all participated in the week-long, worldwide “Hour of Code” learning event that involved over 700 million students from over 180 countries.

The idea behind this event is to bring attention to the need for 21st century learners to know how to code and how important it can be for their future career paths. Students in all 6th grade TAs took one hour in the afternoon to spend time learning how to create their own mini-adventure games using coding skills learned by independently watching a series of “how to” videos that were sponsored by Google. Many students chose to continue their work throughout the week on their own time, whether at school or at home. Students were very excited to help each other out, try out new skills, and problem solve along the way. Some kids even came back to school excited to tell us that they taught their families, whether adults or younger siblings, how to code.
